2005 - New Bands to check out ... // 2005 - Nieuwe bands...
please see below for our tips from when we decided to set up AAPA in the fall of 2005 ...
THE DEAD 60`s are a band heavily influenced by all that was great about youth culture and British music in the late 70`s and early 80`s. You can hear The Clash, The Jam and The Specials, while "Ghost Faced Killer" is reminiscent of early Madness, and although comparisons will bound to be drawn to fellow newcomers HARD-Fi who have also been swayed by some strong Ska influences. We prefer The Dead 60`s.
THE IVORIES are an all girl guitar band from Leeds and have firmly placed themselves in the garage rock territory with a gothic tint to their stage presence. Could be interesting? - During November they are on tour (UK only), while new single "Reduce the temperature" is out on 31-10-2005
SUNDERLAND - The City, not the football team. Following in the footsteps of Bryan Ferry and Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) albeit some time ago when they broke through, we have recently seen the emergence of some new bands from this city in the North East of England, with The Futureheads leading the way. Now we have two more bands to watch out for: Kubichek! (who have just been asked by Editors to support them on their forthcoming sell out UK tour) and Field Music who are due to play at Amsterdam`s Paradiso on Saturday 5th November as part of this years London Calling event and have a single/EP out called "If Only The Moon Were Up".

BE YOUR OWN PET - Teenagers from Nashville USA, First single was released March 2005 called "Damn Damn Leash" followed by "Lets Get Sandy" in Jan 2006. They provide punk/pop sounds and actually sound good. Definitely ones to watch in 2006 as there album hits the stores. Self Titled debut Album due out March 23rd 2006 on Infinity Cat Recordings.
KT TUNSTALL is from Glasgow. She has a fantastic voice, receives excellent live reviews and she writes all her own songs (unlike the overhyped Katie Melua!). KT Tunstall`s debut album "Eye to the Telescope" was released at the end of 2004 and is highly recommended.
ARCTIC MONKEYS are from Sheffield and will be huge in 2006 - that`s all you need to know!
THE CINEMATICS are from Scotland and are building up a decent live reputation that have been resembled to a ballad driven Suede and who are already appealing to those arty students.

THE FUTUREHEADS - an exciting new band from Sunderland, who provide energetic garage/punk/pop sounds and are reported to be excellent live. 2004 saw them break on to the scene giving it a much needed kick up the arse. Their self titled debut album is out now on 679 Recordings (Warners). They see out 2005 with a brand new EP - "Area", which may already be familiar to some as it became a favourite in their live sets. The EP is a stand-alone release for the band before they begin work on their second album which is due for release in mid 2006.
