ANOTHER YEAR DRAWS TO A CLOSE ...
As everyone gets set for their Christmas and New Year break, we would like to wish everyone a happy new year. Thankfully 2006 was a fantastic year as far as music was concerned ... hopefully may that continue in 2007. Our end of year results have since been announced (27 Dec). And remember: Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but, rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming "Fuck, what a ride!"

One of our readers has just pointed out that in the weekly Top 40 by Dutch radio station Kink FM from the last week of 2006 they have THE CINEMATICS at number 14 with their single "Break" and The Fratellis at number 15 with "Chelsea Dagger" and "Whistle For The Choir" as a new entry at number 25, while Placebo are at number 27 with "Meds". Better late than never you could say? Because as was correctly observed AAPA already had The Cinematics with "Break" in their Monthly Play list and Placebo`s "Meds" as their album of the month recommendation back in March 2006, while The Fratellis first appeared in an AAPA play list before the summer in June 2006 with their debut album being our album of the month recommendation in September. Or is this maybe a case of being too far ahead with tips about new bands?! - See also our NEW BANDS section on previous info about THE FRATELLIS

The Brazilian band CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy) will be touring with KLAXONS in February next year at various UK venues. They will also be playing a one off gig at the Botanique in Brussels (B) on Monday 9th April. Their critically acclaimed album was released earlier this year. You can check them out by going through the AAPA My Space platform. The album review can be found - > HERE (under December 2006)

The new album by ARCADE FIRE - "Neon Bible" is expected to be released late March 2007. They are due to play their first set of live dates to coincide with this release in London at the end of January, followed by another set of gigs back over in North America between 13th & 17th February 2007. They will probably hit the Benelux region in time for the summer festivals.
- It looks like PURESSENCE have just released a brand new double-A sided single on their new label, Reaction. The Manchester band were prominent in the indie music scene during the 90`s and had previously released albums on Island Records. "Palisades / Moonbeam" was released on CD and 10" vinyl with both tracks taken from the band's forthcoming album "Don't Forget To Remember" which is set for a late February release. The single was released on 11th December and entered the UK Indie chart at number 9 this week (Monday 18th December). For further information and live dates visit www.puressence.co.uk

NEW RELEASES: In the lead up to the Christmas break, two bands from Leeds have just announced info on new releases. It looks like KAISER CHIEFS will be making their long awaited comeback at the start of 2007, with a new album and single. Their comeback release will be a single entitled "Ruby", which is set for a February 19th release date. They will then follow the single shortly afterwards with their as yet untitled second album. It's also expected tour dates will be announced by then, while iLiKETRAiNS first release since signing to their new label Beggars Banquet (see previous news under "10 - 2006" or our gig review when they played earlier this year at the Rotown) is to be a single entitled "Spencer Perceval", which is the story of the only British Prime Minister to be assassinated and is set to be released in mid March 2007. You can also have a listen by going through the AAPA`s My Space

FALL OUT BOY will be releasing a new album - "Infinity on High" - on 5th February 2007, which will be preceded by the single "This Ain`t A Scene, It's An Arms Race" on 29th January. They will also be doing 3 live dates in the UK at the end of January, followed by another 4 dates at the beginning of April. So far they have one live date in Holland lined up; on 28th March at the 013 venue in Tilburg. All our Concert & Gig Listings can be found - > HERE

Earlier this year there were strong rumours that the legendary pop-art band ROXY MUSIC were to record their first new album in 25 years. However, it has just been revealed that singer Bryan Ferry will now be releasing a new solo album on Monday 5th March, with a 16 date tour of the UK to coincide. This is then followed by various European dates, with one date in Holland at the HMH in Amsterdam on Tuesday 27th March (tickets will be going on sale from 10am this Saturday, 16th December from the usual outlets - kaartverkoop begint aanstaande zaterdag, 16 December om 10.00 uur)
The next ROTTERDAM INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL will run for 10 days between 24th January and 4th February 2007

NEW RELEASES: "Some Loud Thunder" is the new album from CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH (V2 Records) and is out on 29th January, while the self titled debut album from THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE QUEEN will be released on 22nd January through Parlophone, the same day that "Tones Of Town", the new album from FIELD MUSIC is out on the Memphis Industries label. Then on
5th February the 2nd album by BLOC PARTY - "A Weekend In The City" will be released on the Wichita label.

THE HUMAN VALUE have returned to the states having just completed a successful tour of the UK. They should be returning to this side of the Atlantic from around March next year for more live dates, when hopefully their critically acclaimed self titled debut album will also be getting a full European release (so far it is only available in the UK or as import). The full album review by AAPA can be found - > HERE (scroll down to November) - In the meantime there is an exclusive FREE Download of their recent single "Give Me" for a limited period only by going to: http://thehumanvaluemedia.com/

There are two club nights worth mentioning which are taking place in Holland next week. On the eve of MORRISSEY playing a gig at the HMH in Amsterdam there is a Morrissey / The Smiths night in Amsterdam on 19th December (which also includes the showing of the film "24 Hour Party People" (see extra info on this film - > HERE). MORRISSEY has also just released a new single to coincide with his current end of year tour - "i just want to see the boy happy" came out on 3rd December. For more details of this event next Tuesday (free admission) then check out: http://www.submagazine.nl/morrissey/
Then on Friday 22nd December there is an alternative / indie dance night in Utrecht at De Helling venue (admission is 5 Euro).

THE FRATELLIS have announced more live dates in The Benelux region before they then go on to tour Germany. Their gig at the Melkweg on 29th January has since sold out but is now no longer going to be their first ever gig in Holland! For more info on their live dates in January go to our GIG LISTINGS section. We were already tipping them earlier this year (see previous news sections and our NEW BANDS article about them from April 2006) - They first appeared in one of our monthly playlists in June. Since then other Dutch publications are finally catching on...

During their sell out world tour in 2006 it has now become known that DEPECHE MODE recorded all these concerts and have since made them available online through their own website. Do you want to own the entire set of 43 (yes that is 43!) double CD's? - Then we suggest that you go to http://www.depechemode.com/forthemasses/contest.html for more info about an exclusive competition. But you will have to get your skates on as this contest will end on 2nd January 2007.

JARVIS COCKER`s (Pulp) first solo gig in Holland will take place at the Paradiso in Amsterdam on Monday 22nd January (see also our GIG LISTINGS). His debut album "Jarvis" (Rough Trade) which was released last month has been receiving good reviews although we hear that people are having difficulty finding it in Dutch record shops. The album also includes "Running The World" as a hidden track which was initially released online last summer, which is the rather controversial song targeting Tony Blair and other politicians who still to this day haven't been able to commit to their promises surrounding last years Live8 event. This song was also included on the soundtrack of the film "Children Of Men" (and played during the films end credits). The full album review by AAPA can be found - > HERE (under December 2006) - You can also have a listen to "Running The World" by going to Jarvis`s site through the AAPA My Space platform.
- OUT NOW: A 2-CD compilation album covering for the most part electronic artists - ELECTRO-FIED is available through the PROTV label and includes tracks by Klaxons, Depeche Mode, Killers, Moby, Kaiser Chiefs and Goldfrapp, although it also has a fair few dodgy tracks by the more commercial acts like Mylo, Gwen Stefani & Scissor Sisters.

A quick reminder that SONIC YOUTH will be playing a gig this coming friday (15th Dec) in Den Haag. They recently released a new album - "Destroyed Room" (Geffen) is a collection of ‘b-sides and rarities’. Go to our GIG LISTINGS section for more info.
NEW RELEASES ...
As 2006 draws to a close we see the release of various singles but you may have to import the majority of them as Dutch record shops only tend to stock those that get approved by their version of MTV or the national TMF music video channel (which probably helps explain why the likes of RAZORLIGHT, with their big promo budget, are suddenly getting popular amongst Dutch kids?) - For those who prefer to decide for themselves then you can have a listen to most singles by going through AAPA My Space and then on to the bands own sites which we recommend you check out. You may also want to keep an eye on the Monthly Playlists or our NEW BANDS section for future tips - Because the simple fact is that more often than not we have already mentioned the majority of new upcoming bands ages before the likes of TMF or other Dutch publications have even heard about them!

NEW RELEASES: "It's The Little Things We Do" is the new single by THE ZUTONS and was released on 27th November through the Deltasonic label, while GET CAPE. WEAR CAPE. FLY have just released "War Of The Worlds" as a single (which includes a remix by Hot Chip) which is taken from their debut album "The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager" (Atlantic Records).

The artwork for the debut album by KLAXONS has been made available. "Myths Of The Near Future" has a release date of 12th February 2007 and will be available on Polydor Records (see also previous article under: Music News - November)
NEW SINGLE RELEASES: JARVIS (Pulp) will be releasing the single "Don't Let Him Waste Your Time" (Rough Trade) on 8th January (see also MUSIC NEWS - October 2006), while in the lead up to the release of their 2nd album "Tones Of Town" (Memphis Industries) in early 2007, FIELD MUSIC will be releasing a brand new single - "A House Is Not A Home" on 22nd January.
