AUGUST - 2009

The Dutch indie label Tocado Records are celebrating 12 and a half years in the business by putting on a festival at the Grote Markt Plein in Rotterdam City Centre this coming Saturday (29th August) with LUSHUS the 3-piece female fronted power punk pop band from Utrecht set to be one of the highlights. See poster for the full line up and after show details.

As previously reported back in June, BAD LIEUTENANT who are fronted by New Order's Bernard Sumner are set to release their debut album "Never Cry Another Tear" (Triple Echo Records) on 5th October. They have spent over a year writing, recording and mixing the album near Manchester, which features additional musicians including Alex James (Blur) and Stephen Morris (New Order and Joy Division) on several recordings. The live band will also include Stephen Morris on drums along with Tom Chapman on bass. The album will be preceded by the single, “Sink or Swim” which is expected to be released on Monday 21st September 2009. They will be playing three dates over in the UK during October (in Manchester, Brighton & London) and will be making their live debut on the European mainland in Paris on 4th November. See also our previous feature about them in our NEW BANDS section (from Summer 2009) and also our original article in our NEWS 06 - 2009 section - You can also listen to selected tracks by going through AAPA MySpace to their own site.

MAGIC ARM (aka Marc Rigelsford) released his debut album "Make Lists, Do Something" just before the summer on Switchflicker Records. The multi instrumentalist and singer from Manchester was first featured by AAPA back in February in our NEW BANDS section. We now see that he is out on tour across Europe over the next few months supporting CAMERA OBSCURA (See our Benelux Gig section for more info on dates and venues in this region) - Like Beck, Beta Band or Patrick Wolf, Magic Arm is a sonically curious soul who fuses folk, pop and effervescent electronics. You can check out his live dates across Europe and listen to selected tracks by going through AAPA MySpace to his own site.
