R.I.P Tony, Manchester and the world of music has got a lot to thank you for. See previous announcement below ...

The tracklisting for the soundtrack to the Anton Corbijn film CONTROL has been made available, and will be released on 1st October 2007. As previously reported (see our NEWS section from May: 05-2007 and January) the film about Joy Division singer Ian Curtis will premiere in cinemas this autumn. Apart from Joy Division tracks, the soundtrack also features music by Kraftwerk, David Bowie, Roxy Music, Sex Pistols, The Killers and 3 brand new tracks by New Order ('Exit', 'Get Out' and 'Hypnosis')

THE FUTUREHEADS have been touring across Austria, Italy, Russia, Germany and Sweden. Taking the best of post-punk, new wave, and pop as inspiration, Sunderland's The Futureheads were among the best of the new bands to have emerged from the UK over recent years, which has also included the likes of Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs. News just in that they have just finished recording their 3rd and as yet untitled new album with producer Martin "Youth" Glover in Spain - "Youth" was the founding member and bass player of Killing Joke, and has previously produced and remixed for Depeche Mode, Siouxsie & The Banshees, U2, The Shamen, James and Embrace. He also won the Producer Of The Year award in 1998 for his work on The Verve album "Urban Hymns". Early reports are that the new songs on this album are a lot more tighter, faster and, possibly a bit more playful than before ... Hopefully once the album is out, The Futureheads will be out touring the Benelux region again? - Something we at AAPA are looking forward to because apart from delivering two excellent albums so far (see also our album review from June 2006), they are still one of the best live bands we have had the pleasure to experience this century! More info can be found by going to their site at: http://www.myspace.com/thefutureheads - Go to the REVIEWS section for both our album reviews.

TONY WILSON dies ...

Tony Wilson, the record label supremo behind Factory Records (Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays), broadcaster, and co-founder of IN THE CITY has died last night (10th August) aged 57 after a battle with kidney cancer. Lucy Meacock, who co-hosted a TV show on Granada TV (GB) with Tony for more than a decade, said: "I will remember him as one of the most entertaining, kind and charismatic people you could ever meet." Speaking on News 24, BBC Radio presenter Stuart Maconie said about Tony: "There was no more influential and important figure in music in the last 30 or 40 years."
The Tony Wilson Legacy: FACTORY RECORDS - The Manchester-based independent record label was launched in 1978, and was home to a number of groundbreaking bands, including Joy Division, New Order, the Happy Mondays, A Certain Ratio and The Durutti Column. THE HACIENDA - Opening its doors in the early 80`s, the Manchester venue became one of the most famous nightclubs in the world, attracting the best DJs and bands of the era. IN THE CITY - The annual international music convention, where since the early 90`s, new, unsigned bands could perform and gain access to the big chiefs of the music industry in hope of securing record deals. The likes of Placebo, Muse, Coldplay, The Subways, Daft Punk and Arctic Monkeys all did that, and they're in deep gratitude to ITC for giving them their first big breaks. "24-HOUR PARTY PEOPLE" (the film) - was about Manchester's pop music world from 1977 to 1997, and specifically about Factory Records and Tony Wilson. It was based on real-life events.
