FOR TIPS ON RECENT ALBUM RELEASES GO TO
JULY - 2009

FRIENDLY FIRES, BAT FOR LASHES and THE HORRORS are amongst the nominations who have been shortlisted for the prestigious 2009 Mercury Music Prize - The winner of this years Mercury Music Prize will be announced live on BBC 2 on Tuesday 8th September. The full nominations for 2009 are: Florence And The Machine 'Lungs', Glasvegas 'Glasvegas', The Horrors 'Primary Colours', Bat For Lashes 'Two Suns' (photo), Friendly Fires 'Friendly Fires', Led Bib 'Sensible Shoes', Lisa Hannigan 'Sea Sew', Kasabian 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum', The Invisible - 'The Invisible', La Roux 'La Roux', Speech Debelle 'Speech Therapy' & Sweet Billy Pilgrim 'Twice Born Men'. On Wednesday evening (22nd July) you will be able to watch some highlights from the MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL on BBC2`s The Culture Show, which includes Vini Reilly of the Durutti Column paying a special tribute to Tony Wilson. This year also saw special performances by ELBOW, the hotly tipped new band DELPHIC (photo), and KRAFTWERK - More info on DELPHIC can be found in our NEW BANDS section from March 2009

According to reports coming from the UK press, it looks like BLUR and BAT FOR LASHES (photo) were the highlights of the closing day of Glastonbury Festival last Sunday (28th June) - You can now watch the majority of the BFL set (which includes Glass, Sleep Alone, Horse & I, Siren Song, The Wizard, Sarah, Tahiti, What`s A Girl To Do, Pearl`s Dream, Prescilla, Two Planets & Daniel) by going to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/glastonbury/2009/artists/batforlashes/ - During their set, Natasha Khan also performed live versions of 'A Forest' (The Cure) and 'Use Somebody' (Kings Of Leon) - See also our previous feature about them and recent album "Two Suns" in our NEWS 05 - 2009 section from May. DOVES will now be releasing 'Winter Hill' as their next single (on Monday 20th July) - the latest track to be lifted from their album "Kingdom of Rust" (Heavenly / EMI) had already been included in our Monthly Play List for June - You can now watch the video for the new single by going to: http://www.comfortcomes.com/2009/06/23/doves-winter-hill/ - You can also listen to selected tracks from the band by going through AAPA MySpace to their own site.

SHE KEEPS BEES (photo) have recently been compared to The White Stripes and Blood Red Shoes, while singer Jessica Larrabee has drawn comparisons with Polly Harvey, and this coming weekend (3rd & 4th July) this two-piece from Brooklyn will be playing their first ever gigs in the Benelux region. To coincide, their "Revival" EP has just been released in Europe through the Rough Trade Records, while their album "Nests" is expected to receive a European release towards the end of the summer (the album came out over in America last year) - See also our previous feature about them in our NEW BANDS section (from June) - More details about their forthcoming gigs can be found in our Benelux Gig Listings section.
