Members from NEW ORDER and BLUR join up to form new band! - It looks like Bernard Sumner (photo from 2007 book), Stephen Morris and guitarist Phil Cunningham (all of NEW ORDER) have teamed up with Alex James (BLUR) to form a new band - BAD LIEUTENANT - who will be releasing their as yet untitled debut album later this year (probably October) with a full tour to coincide. Sumner told the BBC that he was "very proud” of the record, adding: “It's pretty guitary too because we've got three guitarists in the band." You can watch an acoustic version of Sink or Swim being performed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsn5f4t4YP0 - Meanwhile, it has also just been announced that BLUR are to play a secret gig tonight, 15th June, at a small venue in London, to coincide with the release of their new album "Midlife: A Beginners Guide To Blur" (EMI) which also came out today. They are then set to play at various festivals across the UK during the summer.

On 20th June, Universal are set to release a 3 CD collection entitled Common People: The Brit Pop Story which is a comprehensive journey through the Brit Pop era of the 90`s - The 54 track set has been carefully compiled to include most of the big names of the era: SUEDE, PULP, SAINT ETIENNE, THE AUTEURS, PAUL WELLER; along with a lot of forgotten gems: BABY BIRD, SALAD, SHED SEVEN, GENEVA, ELASTICA, DUBSTAR, BOO RADLEYS, MARION, and everything else in between. It is so much more than the press battle between OASIS and BLUR, and the album reveals the real story that lay beyond, with some of the great singles and tracks that helped define the era. Bob Stanley (Saint Etienne) has provided the sleevenotes for each of the 54 tracks in the box within a 24-page booklet in the style of a classic Select issue from April 1993. For more info see our special feature about THE INDEPENDENT which back in early 1994 was the very first venue in The Netherlands to be playlisting the rising Brit Pop scene. The full track listing on this album can be found at: http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/9814379/Various-Common-People-Brit-Pop-The-Story/Product.html
