They are out on tour across the UK next month, which includes some dates with CSS and MGMT, and are due to appear at various festivals across Europe during the summer, including Rock Am Ring in Germany. This Friday (18th April at 23:35hrs UK time) sees another "Later ... with Jools Holland" show on BBC2 - The guests who will be performing live include PORTISHEAD who last appeared on this show over ten years ago and return this week to play tracks from their brand new album "Third" (Island) which is out on 28th April, and THE LAST SHADOW PUPPETS (the collaboration between Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane who used to be in The Little Flames and The Rascals) who have their debut album "The Age Of The Understatement" (Domino) out on Monday, while the title track of their album is already out as a single and with its spaghetti western sound is in our opinion very much influenced by none other than the maestro himself ... Ennio Morricone !!
On tonight's show, Alex and Miles are joined on stage with a full orchestra conducted by Final Fantasy to play the tracks 'My Mistakes Were Made For You', 'In My Room' and this week's debut single 'The Age Of The Understatement'.

To all Casema Digital + customers in The Netherlands, PJ HARVEY will be interviewed live on BBC Radio 3 this coming Sunday (20th April) when she will be discussing her musical passions with Michael Berkeley. The programme starts at 12 noon (13:00 hours NL time) and is also available to listen to on-line at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/privatepassions/

The eagerly awaited debut album from THE COURTEENERS is now out. "St. Jude" was released on Polydor Records and within a week it shot straight into the top 5 of the UK Album charts and although still difficult to find in Dutch record shops this should change over the next few weeks (unlike the Dutch charts, the UK charts are compiled from weekly record sales). The band from Manchester will be making their live debut in The Netherlands at a special London Calling event on 30th April at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. We can already guarantee you that come the end of the year they will be massive! The title of the album is Saint Jude, who according to the band is the patron saint of lost causes (although we understand that St Jude is also the patron saint of police officers!) - According to singer Liam Fray the album is therefore "a ray of hope for all the kids who feel that they are a lost cause". More info about them can be found (from September 2007) in our NEW BANDS section.

MORRISSEY is to release 'All You Need Is Me' as a new single on 19th May, which will feature the B-sides 'My Dearest Love' and 'Children In Pieces', plus a cover version of David Bowie's 'Drive-In Saturday'. Morrissey is still working on his next album - the follow-up to 2006's "Ringleader Of The Tormentors", which is scheduled for an Autumn 2008 release.

THE FUTUREHEADS have been announced as the headline band on the John Peel Stage at this year's Glastonbury Festival ... and as the year starts to unfold they are going to be the band to watch during 2008! Their eagerly anticipated new album "This Is Not The World" (Nul Records) will be out on 26th May and includes their latest single ‘The Beginning Of The Twist’ (which came out on 10th March) which has become a hit over in the UK (it is still being played on almost a daily basis on BBC radio 1). See also our previous article from January about the album in our NEWS 01-2008 section. You can listen to selected songs by going through AAPA MySpace to their own site.

JAMES who were part of the 'Madchester' crowd who drove British music through the 1990's, are back with a brand new album - "Hey Ma" (Mercury) is out on Monday (7th April) and is their first new studio release since 2001's "Pleased To Meet You", and will in fact be their ninth album. They are about to embark on a sell-out UK tour with various European Festivals already planned during the summer. Their single 'Sit Down' was first released back in 1989, a track that has gained almost legendary status in the (British) indie music scene. You can listen to selected songs by going through AAPA MySpace to their own site.

THE FRATELLIS have announced details of a brand new single. 'Mistress Mabel' (out on 26th May) was first played earlier this week on the X-posure show on Xfm Scotland. The Glasgow trio's highly anticipated second album "Here We Stand" (Island) is due for release on 9th of June and is the follow up to their 2006 debut album "Costello Music".

Following on from our separate articles last month about KLAXONS and ENNIO MORRICONE (see LATEST NEWS 03-2008), it looks like they have actually linked up for the next Klaxons album! We understand that they are currently working on their new album over in Italy in Morricone`s own studio!

BAT FOR LASHES will be supporting RADIOHEAD for their upcoming UK & European tour that starts in June, which also includes the outdoor event at the Westerpark in Amsterdam on 1st July. The band have long been fans of Natasha Khan’s work and Thom Yorke picked 'Horse And I' as one of his top songs from last year. Natasha has already started work on her next album, which will be the follow up to the Mercury Prize nominated debut "Fur and Gold" (Echo Records) and she has also been involved with a tribute album to The Cure for the LA based Manimal Vinyl Records which is a fundraiser for the Ugandan youth charity Invisible Children. A full review of "Fur and Gold" from October 2006 can be found in our ALBUM REVIEWS section. Manimal Vinyl's Cure tribute will be called "Perfect as Cats", is expected to be released this Autumn on vinyl and apart from Bat For Lashes version of 'A Forest' also includes contributions from Blonde Redhead with 'The Funeral Party', Dandy Warhols with 'Primary' and CocoRosie with their version of 'Just Like Heaven' - More info on this tribute album can be found at: http://www.myspace.com/manimalvinyl - You can listen to selected songs from Natasha and Bat For Lashes by going through AAPA MySpace to their own site.
