FOR TIPS ON RECENT ALBUM RELEASES GO TO
MARCH - 2009

As previously reported, the brand new BAT FOR LASHES album "Two Suns" (Parlophone / EMI) is out on Monday 6th April, and has been preceded by the single 'Daniel', which was included in our Monthly Playlist for March. We now also hear that Charlotte Hatherley, the former guitarist with ASH, is to spend this year touring with BAT FOR LASHES - Hatherley will join Natasha Khan in a run which includes UK, European and US dates. In a message on her own website Hatherley wrote: "I'm happy as Larry because the music is so ace and I not only get to play heavily chorused guitar a la The Cure, but get to play throbbingly fuzzed-up bass, keyboards and twinkly bells.” - Go to our Benelux Gigs section for more info on dates within the Benelux region during May (although the gig in Brussels on 15th May has already sold out). As previously mentioned back in January, ROYKSOPP have a new album out on 23rd March. "Junior" (Wall Of Sound / EMI / Astralwerks, depending on region) is their third album, and they are one of the bands who will be appearing at this years Mozaique Festival in Rotterdam on 10th April. The duo from Norway should be appearing at festivals across Europe during the summer. It looks like 2009 could well be the year for KiD BRiTiSH the ska, reggae, electro pop and indie influenced band from Manchester. Their new single 'Sunny Days' (which was included in our Monthly Playlist for March) is out on 20th April, and they are currently touring across the UK supporting THE ENEMY. They will also be one of the bands to appear at the next London Calling event in Amsterdam on 1st May. We now hear that they have just been asked to support THE SPECIALS during their forthcoming reunion tour over in the UK. PLACEBO are set to return with a brand new album on 8th June and it is their first new album since the release of "Meds" back in 2006 - "Battle For The Sun" (PIAS) will be their first album with drummer Steve Forrest, who replaced Steve Hewitt who left the band in 2007 - The album will be released as a download, CD, limited-edition CD/DVD, LP and a limited special edition two-CD/two-DVD/LP "Deluxe Box Set". THE STONE ROSES self-titled debut is set to be re-released this summer as a boxed set for its 20th anniversary, featuring re-mastered sound by original producer John Leckie. There are also strong rumours that the Manchester band will be playing approx 20 (twenty) live dates in the UK with the original line up of Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani (Gary Mounfield), and drummer Reni (Alan Wren), to coincide with the release. This weekend (13th & 14th March) there are several programmes on BBC 3 about ROUGH TRADE RECORDS - the indie label that was set up in London by Geoff Travis in the late 70`s, which went onto give the UK (and then often the world) bands like THE SMITHS, THE SUNDAYS, MAZZY STAR, BELLE & SEBASTIAN, THE STROKES and ARCADE FIRE. Artists including Jarvis Cocker (PULP) and Bernard Butler (SUEDE and DUFFY) share their memories during the programme of one of the best independent labels in the business. TORI AMOS is set to release her new album in May - "Abnormally Attracted To Sin" is Tori`s tenth studio album and was recorded and mixed near her home in Cornwall, England, and will be her first release on the Universal Republic label. She will showcase it during a live performance at this years South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas on Thursday 19th March. The album will be out on Monday 18th May (19th May in USA). BAT FOR LASHES and SCHOOL of SEVEN BELLS are out touring together across the UK in April. As previously mentioned last month (see our NEWS 02 - 2009 section), the new BAT FOR LASHES album "Two Suns" (Parlophone) will be out on 6th April, while "Alpinisms" the debut album by SVIIB was released on 23rd February over in the UK. Former PULP frontman JARVIS COCKER will be releasing his brand new solo album "Further Complications" (Rough Trade) on 18th May (19th May in USA). It is the follow up to "Jarvis" (from 2006) and it has been reported that Jarvis has been working on his new album with producer Steve Albini. To coincide with the release, Jarvis will also be doing three gigs in the Benelux region in June. Go to our GIG LISTINGS section for more info on the gigs. Next month will see the release of four Re-mastered albums by SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES - A Kiss In The Dreamhouse, Nocturne, Hyaena, and Tinderbox are all reissued on 6th April as single disc releases with new liner notes penned by Paul Morley. Three of them will also include bonus tracks - "A Kiss In The Dreamhouse": Fireworks (12" Version), Slowdive (12" Version), Cascade (Workhouse Demo) & Painted Bird (Workhouse Demo) - "Hyaena": Dear Prudence (7" Version), Dazzle (Glamour Mix), Baby Piano (Part 1) & Baby Piano (Part 2) - "Tinderbox": Cities In Dust (Extended Version), The Sweetest Chill (12" Version), Song From The Edge Of The World (JVC Version) & Starcrossed Lovers. Described a few years ago as a Dance-Punk band, DARTZ will be out touring across Europe in April with one date in The Netherlands (at the Shadrak in Groningen on 15th April) - This post punk band from Middlesbrough have built up a great live reputation over the years. In September last year they released their second album "The Sad History Of The Village Of Alnerique" (Xtra Mile Recordings) which did not appear to be available in Benelux shops? On 13th April, YEAH YEAH YEAHS are back with a brand new album, their third, entitled "It’s Blitz!" (Polydor) which is the follow up to "Show Your Bones" (from 2006) and will be preceded by the single ‘Zero’. It was produced by Nick Launay and TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek. They are also back out on tour with three dates so far confirmed over in the UK (with two shows in London and one in Manchester)
