FOR TIPS ON RECENT ALBUM RELEASES GO TO
MARCH - 2007

There are currently rumours circulating that Björk will do an outdoor concert in the Westerpark, Amsterdam in July. She is already headlining at various European Festivals this summer (although not at any Dutch Festivals) while her brand new album "Volta" (One Little Indian) is set for release on Monday 7th May (see also previous info under - "02 - 2007") - We will keep you all updated on the Amsterdam gig ...

HAPPY MONDAYS have just announced details of a brand new as yet untitled album which will be preceded by a new single in June and will be released on Sanctuary Records. The "Madchester" legends (along with other bands like The Stone Roses and Inspiral Carpets) helped change the direction of music back in the late 80`s which included their now classic indie album "Pills Thrills & Bellyaches" (Factory Records) from 1990. Their story was also recently depicted in the film "24 Hour Party People". The Happy Mondays are also set to do a UK tour in May and will also be appearing at various festivals across the world.

GIGS CANCELLED in April... It looks like ARCADE FIRE have been forced to cancel the last 9 dates on their European Tour due to illness, which includes both sold out dates in The Benelux region at the beginning of April - They had just completed 8 sell out dates over in the UK and 3 more in France when singer Win Butler picked up a sinus infection. The band go onto say that due to other touring commitments across the world (this includes an American tour starting at the end of April and festival appearances in Germany, Scotland & Ireland during the summer) it is therefore unlikely that these venue dates in Europe will be rescheduled. Ticket holders are advised to obtain refunds from their local promoters. Their second album "Neon Bible" was released on 5th March - Full review can be found in our ALBUM REVIEWS section. You can keep up to date with the full touring schedule of Arcade Fire at: http://www.arcadefire.net/tour/

Tuesday 5th June is the day for concerts in Holland with both THE WHO and TRAVIS already scheduled to play, but now they have been joined on the same day by MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE who will be doing one at the HMH in Amsterdam, while they also have a new single "I Don`t Love You" (Warners) out on Monday 2nd April. For more info on live dates go to our Benelux Concerts section

EDITORS headed over to Ireland in December to record some songs. The new, as yet untitled album is expected to be released around summer 2007. They have also just announced some live dates in the UK in May (presumably some of the new songs will also get their first plays), where they start in Warrington on 22nd May, then play London (23rd), Wolverhampton (24th) and finish in Glasgow on 25th May. Tickets go on general sale from 9am (UK time) this Friday (23rd March).

DEPECHE MODE will be releasing re-mastered versions of both "Black Celebration" and "Construction Time Again" on 26th March which also include additional DVDs. They are giving TWO FANS the chance to win two sets of the promotional advance releases, including the artwork (test artwork sheets which are suitable for framing) - The contest will end March 26th, 2007 and all you need to do is go to their site and answer 1 question at: http://www.depechemode.com/forthemasses/contest.html

THE HORRORS who recently released their debut album "Strange House" (Polydor) with a thrilling and amphetamine-wired take on late-60's psychedelia and garage rock will be playing their first concert in Holland on Tuesday 17th April. The album includes the singles "Count In Fives" and "Sheena Is A Parasite". Reports from the UK are that they are a great live band. Go to our GIG LISTINGS section for more info on 3 gigs in the Benelux region in April.

THE CINEMATICS are from Scotland, appear to be inspired by the likes of The Cure and Echo & the Bunnymen, and made an impression during a previous edition of London Calling in 2006 (see gig review - > HERE under April 2006), with their guitar riffs, addictive hooks and pulsating drums along with a singer who sounds not too dissimilar to Brett Anderson from Suede, but their record company TVT have taken ages to get their debut album out and unfortunately things have moved on a bit since then. We first featured them in one of our monthly play lists back in March 2006. Still, if you like EDITORS or FRANZ FERDINAND then this should also appeal and their album is definitely worth a listen. They also have a new single - "Keep Forgetting" - out at the moment to coincide with their album release on 19th March.

Post-hardcore outfit ENTER SHIKARI became one of the fastest-rising unsigned bands in the UK, grabbing the attention of every label in the country when they sold out major London venues without a single release! The band are finally signed, and released their debut album "Take To The Skies" in March 2007 on the Ambush Reality label (probably through PIAS in the Benelux). They will also be playing some gigs in the Benelux region during April. For more info about the band go to January 2007 in our NEW BANDS section. For details on the live dates go to our GIG LISTINGS section.

SHITDISCO will release their debut album "Kingdom of Fear" on 16th April. Described by the band as ''pop music you can dance to and disco music you can shout along to'', the album includes the singles "Reactor Party" and "I Know Kung Fu", and will be available on the Fierce Panda label. They will be doing a gig in Holland on 6th May. More info in our GIG LISTINGS section.

SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO who have recently signed to the Wichita label should be releasing their debut album "Attack Decay Sustain Release" on 2nd April (in some regions this may be 9th April or later), and it will be preceded by their new single "It’s the Beat" that also includes their remix of "Magick" by KLAXONS, which is out on 26th March.

The artwork (2 options) for the new album by ARCTIC MONKEYS has been made available. As previously reported (See info under "02 - 2007"), their second album "Favourite Worst Nightmare" is out on the 23rd April and will be released by Domino Records. The band will also be touring the UK in April (starting in Southampton on the 9th and finishing in Sheffield on 21st & 22nd)
NEW TARANTINO SOUNDTRACK: On 2nd April we see the release of the soundtrack to the new Quentin Tarantino film "Death Proof" (Warners) which will include tracks by 70`s glam rockers T.REX and just like in "Kill Bill", he has secured music for the film score by recent Oscar winner ENNIO MORRICONE - See also previous article under "02 - 2007" on Morricone.

It looks like DAVID BOWIE is set to release yet another "Best of" compilation album on 19th March through EMI Records - And although the "Best Of Bowie (Sight & Sound Edition CD+DVD)" is a good collection of his work over the years we don`t really understand the purpose as most of his fans will already have the originals and probably at least one of the previously released compilation albums that tend to come out every few years? And if this release is just for the additional DVD then surely they already had access to all these promo vids back in November 2005 when EMI released "The Platinum Collection"?

NEW ALBUMS: On 19th March KUBICHECK release "Not Enough Night" (30:30 Recordings), while ENTER SHIKARI bring out their debut album "Take To The Skies" (Ambush Reality). Then on 26th March we see the release of Suede singer BRETT ANDERSON`s self titled solo album on the Vital label. As previously mentioned, MAXIMO PARK are set to release their second album "Our Earthly Pleasures" (Warp Records) on 2nd April, which is the same date that Kitchenware Records & BMG will be re-releasing a re-mastered and expanded 2CD version of PREFAB SPROUT`s classic indie album "Steve McQueen" (originally released in 1985). Dutch readers can find out more about this album by going to // Nederlandse commentaar over deze album is terug te vinden op: http://www.musicmeter.nl/album/6300
You can also have a listen to selected tracks by the other artists mentiond by going through AAPA`s MySpace

"Never Meant To Hurt You" is the new (and 5th) single from GOOD SHOES and is to be followed by their debut album "Think Before You Speak" (Brille Records) which will be out on 26th March. They play a sort of fast awkward guitar based pop music with a little bit of late seventies new wave added to the mix ... just in case you were wondering!
- In addition to playing at various European Festivals this summer, Björk has a brand new album out on 7th May. "Volta" will be released on the One Little Indian label. See also previous info under - "02 - 2007"

WE START FIRES, the electro-indie-punksters from Darlington, have a new single out on 16th April. "Magazine" will be released on the on Marquis Cha Cha label on CD, 7" vinyl and digital download. The band appeared at a London Calling event in Amsterdam last year (go to REVIEWS - > GIGS to see review from 2006) and they should finally be releasing their debut album during 2007. You can also have a listen by going to their site through AAPA`s MySpace

For those of us residing in Holland, one band definitely worth checking out when they are playing various gigs across the country are LUSHUS, a bass guitar driven 3-piece from Utrecht who recently played a very energetic, at times amusing but highly entertaining set at a venue in Delft (see gig review - > HERE from March 2007). The band released their debut album "Red Blushes" (on Dying Giraffe Records) last year and have since been touring across the European mainland. They have also been tipped by Dutch radio station VPRO and more details on their forthcoming gigs can be found in our GIG LISTINGS section.
Following in the footsteps of BAT FOR LASHES playing live on THE CULTURE SHOW on BBC2 on 10th February, you will now be able to see ARCADE FIRE this coming saturday (10th March) - The programme starts from 20:30 hrs NL time.
