Concerts & Festivals: In addition to their gig at Amsterdam Paradiso on 11th April, FOALS have also been confirmed as one of the bands to appear at this years Motel Mozaique Festival on 12th April, while THE KILLS (photo) will now be doing 2 dates in the Benelux region during March. We have also just heard that BLOOD RED SHOES have been confirmed as the special guests for SIOUXSIE when she plays the London Shepherds Bush Empire on Monday 10th March. This Friday (29th February at 23:35hrs UK time) sees another "Later ... with Jools Holland" show on BBC2 - The guests who will be performing live include THE KILLS, VAMPIRE WEEKEND (photo) and SUPERGRASS - Then a day later on the new music show SOUND on BBC2 (Saturday 1st March at 13:00hrs NL time) you can watch THE KILLS again along with performances by WE ARE SCIENTISTS and THE ENEMY
    
More NEW ALBUMS: On Monday 10th March, THE KILLS will be releasing their brand new album "Midnight Boom" (Domino Records). On Monday 24th March, PANIC! AT THE DISCO return with their second album "Pretty Odd" (Fueled By Ramen / Warners), and FOALS release their debut album "Antidotes" (Transgressive Records), while Warners are to bring out a 2CD compilation album from JOY DIVISION entitled "The Best Of". And then as previously reported (see below), R.E.M. are set to release their new album "Accelerate" (WEA / Warners) on 31st March with an outdoor gig in Amsterdam lined up for 2nd July.

As previously mentioned back in January (see NEWS 01-2008), THE COURTEENERS eagerly awaited debut album is to be called "St Jude" and it will be released by Polydor Records and in the shops as of 7th April. The album will include previous singles 'Cavorting' and 'What Took You So Long?' but will not include previous single and fans favorite 'Acrylic'. The full track listing for the album is: 'Aftershow','Cavorting','Bide Your Time','What Took You So Long?','Please Don't','If It Wasn't For Me','No You Didn't, No You Don't','How Come','Kings Of The New Road','Not Nineteen Forever','Fallowfield Hillbilly' & 'Yesterday, Today'. THE FUTUREHEADS (photo) have been confirmed as the headliners at the Xfm Big Night Out at London`s Brixton Academy on Thursday 20th March. Also appearing live on the night will be ONE NIGHT ONLY and BLACK KIDS (see our NEW BANDS section from February 2008 for more info on them), alongside Xfm DJs. THE FUTUREHEADS have also just recorded a live version of their new single ‘The Beginning Of The Twist’ (which is out on 10th March) for the BBC programme Sound. It will be broadcast this Saturday (16th February) on BBC2 at 15:40 (16:40 NL time), and for those who also have access to Digital TV in The Netherlands it will be repeated on BBC3 at 19:00 (20:00 hours NL time). Also on Saturdays show are FRIENDLY FIRES and GET CAPE, WEAR CAPE, FLY who is gearing up for the release of his second album "Searching For The How's And Why's" (Atlantic) in March - and is the follow-up to "Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager" from 2006 - It will be preceded by his new single 'Find The Time' which is out on 3rd March. NEW ALBUMS: On Monday 3rd March, NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS are due to bring out their new album "Dig, Lazarus, Dig", YOUNG KNIVES release their second album "Superabundance", and BILLY BRAGG has his brand new album out entitled "Mr. Love and Justice". And then as previously reported back in November 2007, MUSE are to finally release their live album "The Haarp Tour: Live From Wembley" {CD+DVD} on 17th March (it had originally been scheduled for a December 2007 release date but got postponed). Originally featured last October during our coverage of the annual IN THE CITY event, and then in December 2007 as part of our NEW BANDS section, THE TING TINGS - a two-piece indie band from Manchester - are set to be one of the top up and coming bands to appear at the next London Calling event in Amsterdam at the end of April. The UK radio station Xfm recently described them as "...having huge tunes, untouchable Manc [Manchester] street cred and a sassy charm that puts others to shame." - Their new single 'Great DJ' will be out on 3rd March on CD and limited edition 7" vinyl through the BMG label - The 7" vinyl version is reported to be made up by turning the sleeves of second hand records inside out and to then customise them to create new sleeves for their single! BLOOD RED SHOES return to do a couple of live dates in Holland this month (Go to our Gig Guide for more info) - As previously reported in NEWS 12 - 2007 the two-piece indie rock band from Brighton will be releasing their debut album "Box of Secrets" (V2) on 14th April, which will be preceded a week earlier on 7th April by the single 'Say Something / Say Anything'. The artwork for their album is expected to look like this (see below)


As previously reported, indie legends INSPIRAL CARPETS are back with a UK tour in March 2007 (see also our feature below about their singer TOM HINGLEY and his new album) - You can have a listen to selected indie hits from the band by going through AAPA MySpace to their own site.

R.E.M. have a brand new album out on 31st March - "Accelerate" (Warners) will be the fourteenth studio album by American alternative rock band and has been produced by Jacknife Lee. The band will precede the album release with the single 'Supernatural Superserious', along with a special show at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 24th March. A full European tour then commences in July with one date in Amsterdam on Wednesday 2nd July.

CANDIE PAYNE has just been in the studio to record two songs with David Byrne (Talking Heads) for an album that will be released later this year which also includes a collaboration with David and Tori Amos. Candie Payne released her critically acclaimed debut album "I Wish I Could Have Loved You More" (Deltasonic) last year - A full review can be found under ALBUM REVIEWS from May 2007) - The singer from Liverpool is also about to start recording her second as yet untitled album that should hopefully be out before the year is out. MORRISSEY will be appearing live on two BBC TV programmes this weekend. The former SMITHS front man will be the main guest performing on Later With Jools Holland (BBC 2, Friday 8th February at hours 23:35 hours UK time, so from 00:35 hours NL time) and will also be a guest on The Culture Show (BBC2, Saturday 9th February at 19:55 hours NL time) - He has just released his "Greatest Hits" album which includes the brand new single 'That's How People Grow Up' (which was released earlier this week). update 10th February 2008: For those lucky enough to tune in to BBC2 on friday night, MORRISSEY and his band gave us 4 songs on the show; 'All You Need Is Me', new single 'That's How People Grow Up', a world exclusive of 'Something Is Squeezing My Skull' and he then finished the show with his classic hit 'Last Of The Famous International Playboys'.

THE LOVERS are a 5-piece British punk rock band from Manchester formed by Tom Hingley (the lead vocalist of INSPIRAL CARPETS), Steve Hanley and Paul Hanley (who are both former members of THE FALL), Jason Brown and Kelly Wood. Next month sees TOM HINGLEY & THE LOVERS release their second album "Highlights" and it is the first release from the band since their critically acclaimed 2004 debut "Abba Are the Enemy" which was a brash 200 mph Punk/Garage dash through topical subjects such as reality television, the Pop parade and War Mongering, while this new album sees the band developing along a much more melodic, poetic, soulfull train of thought. Tom is touring the UK in March 2008 with INSPIRAL CARPETS, while in April he is out on tour acrss the UK with THE LOVERS. PARIS MOTEL are a band from London who released their critically acclaimed debut album "In The Salpetriere" in the UK on Loose Records last year, and are now to have the album released in France through PIAS in February 2008. BE YOUR OWN PET have a new album out on 17th March - "get awkward" (Full artwork of the cover to follow) will be released by the Nashville-based quartet through XL Recording.

SIOUXSIE is about to embark on her North American tour which commences in New York on 8th February, and she is set to tour the UK again during March. She will be releasing a new single on 10th March - 'About To Happen' which is taken from her solo album "Mantaray". PANIC AT THE DISCO (minus the ! in Panic now!) have a brand new album out on 25th March - "Pretty. Odd." will be released through the Fueled By Ramen label and they also return to The Netherlands on Friday 7th March to play one gig during their new tour.
