Later this month (January 2009), Rhino UK will be releasing the 4 CD compilation album FACTORY RECORDS: Communications 1978-92 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Factory, Manchester's most well known record label. The Factory name was first used for a club featuring local bands including The Durutti Column and Joy Division. The first album on the label was Joy Division's 'Unknown Pleasures', which produced the hit single 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'. Lead singer Ian Curtis tragically committed suicide, but the rest of the band renamed themselves New Order. In 1981 Factory and New Order converted a former yacht showroom in the centre of Manchester into The Hacienda nightclub. This compilation album on 4 CDs has a very similar track listing to the Factory Records release entitled "PALATINE: The Factory Story 1979 - 1990" from november 1991, which was then available on 4 CDs, 4x vinyl, or on 4 cassettes. This new release should be out in all good record shops from 12th or 19th January depending on country.
