As most of us were away till the end of January, here is a summary of music news ...

Earlier this month, hotly tipped Manchester band THE COURTEENERS released an exclusive limited edition 7-track enhanced CD in Japan entitled "Here Come The Young Men" which includes sold out singles and unreleased tracks 'Cavorting', 'Acrylic' & 'No You Didn't, No You Don't', along with the video for 'Acrylic'. The band are expected to release 'Not Nineteen Forever' (Polydor) as a new single on 31st March, which will precede their eagerly awaited debut album (possibly to be called "St Jude") which was produced by Steven Street (The Smiths, Blur & Kaiser Chiefs) that should hit the shops on 7th April. THE COURTEENERS are expected to do in 2008 what ARCTIC MONKEYS did back in 2006 ... become huge! - so get your pre-orders in now ... THE FUTUREHEADS are back with a brand new single on 10th March - 'The Beginning Of The Twist' will be released through the band's own Nul Records, and they will be releasing their as yet untitled third album later on in the year. The band will also be recording a live version of the new single for a future release on every night of their upcoming UK tour in February / March. NEW ALBUMS: As previously reported - see previous info under NEWS 12 - 2007 - HOT CHIP will be releasing their brand new album "Made In The Dark" on Monday 4th February, while GOLDFRAPP are set to release "Seventh Tree" (Mute) on 25th February. This month also sees MORRISSEY release his "Greatest Hits" collection through Polydor Records, while the hotly tipped LAURA MARLING is set to bring out her debut album "Alas I Cannot Swim" (Virgin) on 11th February. BRIT AWARDS 2008 - Some of the nominations for this year include ARCTIC MONKEYS who are up for Best Band, Best Album & Best live act, PJ HARVEY (photo) and KT TUNSTALL are both up for Best British Female Solo Artist, KAISER CHIEFS and EDITORS are both nominated for Best British Band, BAT FOR LASHES is up for Best Breakthrough Act and Best British Female Solo Artist, ARCADE FIRE and KINGS OF LEON are both up for Best international group and Best Album, MUSE for Best British live act, KLAXONS for Best live act and Best Breakthrough Act, KATE NASH for Best Breakthrough Act, and THE WHITE STRIPES for Best international group. The winners will be announced in London on 20th February.

THE KILLS are back with a brand new album and tour in March - "Midnight Bloom", which is the follow-up to "No Wow" (2005) and will be released on Monday 10th March through Domino Records and is preceded by the single 'URA Fever' (which came out in the UK on 7th January). To coincide with the release of their album they are due to play a gig in Amsterdam on 22nd March. Go to our GIG LISTINGS section for more info.

British trip-hop survivors PORTISHEAD, who originally shot to prominence back in 1994 with the Mercury Prize winning debut album "Dummy",. are back with a brand new album (their first since the orchestra-backed live LP from 1998) and are to play a gig on Monday 7th April at the HMH in Amsterdam - "Third" has 11 tracks, is 49 minutes 13 seconds long, and will be released a week later on 14th April.

THE TING TINGS made a huge impact last month when they appeared live on "Later with ..." on BBC2 (14th December 2007) - You can now take a look at them performing their single 'That`s Not My Name' at: http://graveyardshiftshane.wordpress.com/2008/01/05/the-ting-tings-on-later/

MORRISSEY is set to release his "Greatest Hits" album on Monday 11th February through his new label Polydor/Decca and the songs selected span the Manchester icon’s 20-year solo career. The album is to be released on CD and double vinyl, with a limited edition run of CDs that will also include a ‘Live At The Hollywood’ Bowl bonus CD.
